DNS prevented attacks

An interesting way to track malicious campaigns. I always set customer DNS to Quad9 or to add 1 extra layer of protection.

7 Ways to Secure Your Web Browser Against Attacks

Your web browser is under attack. Aside from simply tricking you into downloading and running malicious software, attackers mainly target flaws in your browser and its plug-ins to compromise your PC.

Use these tips to secure your web browser from attackers, whether they’re using malvertising attacks, compromising websites, or just directing you to malicious websites they’ve created.

To obtain a copy of your most recent tax transcript, the IRS requires the following information: The applicant’s name, date of birth, Social Security number and filing status. After that data is successfully supplied, the IRS uses a service from credit bureau Equifax that asks four KBA questions. Anyone who succeeds in supplying the correct answers can see the applicant’s full tax transcript, including prior W2s, current W2s and more or less everything one would need to fraudulently file for a tax refund.

Such privacy is crucial for a number of reasons. For one thing, it shields us from persecution, whether it concerns our race, religion, gender, political orientation, or any other of a vast number of personal attributes.

Worst Sports-Related Passwords

Although baseball, soccer, hockey, and basketball teams do appear on the top 25, the names of NFL teams show up most often (“eagles,” “steelers,” “cowboys,” “raiders,” “packers,” “giants,” “redskins,” “dolphins”). So if you know you work in an office full of football fans, urge them to enhance their passwords (especially if the local team is in the NFC East division).

LastPass – Premier Password Manager

Every week another large company has a data breach.  One way to help protect your accounts is to have a different password for every account.  This is HARD to do!

A password manager is a great way to have one master password and then have your others in an encrypted vault that travels with you between phones, browsers, etc.

Create an account and install the browser extensions or try the full Windows client.  Then save a few passwords to it, and generate a new and difficult password for them.

Why I Gave Up Job Security to Go Freelance

Thinking about leaving that ‘secure’ job after working on a side project for a while?  This may help with the motivation.

“It’s not always simple, but the payoff is a job that I love and work-life balance that would never be possible in a traditional work arrangement. In the end, it wasn’t all about passion and paychecks. However, I realized that if you have the two, it only takes a little more effort to figure out everything else.”
