If we want tools that are secure and usable, then these projects need funding,” says Trevor Timm, executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation, a non-profit that has run fundraising campaigns for encryption software. “They don’t have a business model. They’re not doing this to make money. Their first priority is the security of users.”
