Your inbox as your To Do list – Good, bad?

Working with professionals in several industries I’ve seen nearly every type of To Do list.  From paper, to a Notepad file, to Evernote, Wunderlist, Getting Things Done, Any.Do, Astrid, Remember The Milk, and others. One that I’ve tried and failed at is keeping the email inbox as a to do list.  For me, this is maddening as I can get 100 emails a day, and only 5 of them actually require me to do something.
